Bristol before the war

BEFORE World War II, what we now call Castle Park was at the heart of old Bristol. Once the site of the city’s medieval castle and its outbuildings, it gradually evolved into a commercial centre, its narrow, picturesque streets lined with shops, pubs, cinemas, restaurants, churches and warehouses, many backing on to a busy Floating Harbour.
